What a fabulous night we had on Friday at Punnet Café with our Amateur Chef Cook Off.
Our two amateur chefs; Michelle Mourits and Kylie Simpson were total stars and the 60 odd guests were all amazed at the delicious food they served.
Crispy Tempura Calamari, Israeli couscous, roasted baby beets, Sango greens, herb crème fraiche, lemon cheek
Silver Fern Farms Seared Lamb Medallions, pumpkin puree, kumara and mozzarella croquette, glazed beans Central Otago Pinot jus, wild mint
Whittakers Chocolate and Mandarin Tart, citrus mascarpone, poached mandarin compote, almond and macadamia toffee praline
Kylie’s menu was;
Raukumara Red Venison Tortellini With marrow cream foam, wine barrel smoked mushroom shavings & tamarillo preserve
Gemfish Medallion, potato gratin, market garden roasted kale sprouts & broccoli trio
Lemon & Raspberry Cronut, vanilla bean gelato & spiced walnut crumble
Both the entrée and the desserts were very close but the Silver Fern Farms Lamb Medallions proved to be the winning dish of the night and sealed the victory for Michelle.
A massive thanks has to go to everyone involved in putting this great night together! Haley and her team at Punnet were fantastic, as was our Josephine Blake who helped our chefs in the kitchen on the night.
Silver Fern Farms for the winning lamb and Alessandro from Caffe Centrale who made Kylie’s vanilla bean gelato. Kitchen Things Hamilton for the fabulous prize of a $1000 voucher. And Mark Bunting for bringing the night together as our MC.
